Market-Rate Housing

With key direction from the city council, and support from the growth council, the Sanford-Springvale region has seen a recent increase in the development of market-rate housing. This has advanced improvements in the housing stock and the availability of a mix of housing opportunities for current and future residents. Some examples include Marland Hall and Mousam Falls Apartments in Springvale; and Austin Place Apartments in South Sanford. Two projects more projects have been permitted for an additional 66 units in downtown Sanford.

Land Bank Authority

The Sanford Land Bank Authority (LBA) was established in 2017 to oversee new housing program operations that regulate rental housing and vacant buildings through licensing and inspections. It is an effort to handle ongoing issues with Sanford’s aging housing stock. The LBA is responsible for: addressing dangerous buildings that detract from the value of real estate and impact the safety and quiet enjoyment of neighboring people and properties; ensuring there are safe and affordable places to live; and expediting the transition of abandoned and foreclosed properties back to value-producing real estate. For more information on LBA protocols and board membership, please visit: https://www.sanfordmaine.org/landbankauthority.
